One NSW paramedic has had an unusual day, attending her first birth call-out to a western Sydney parking lot.

NSW Ambulance was called to Pennant Hills Road at Oatlands at about 8am, by a couple driving to the hospital.

Paramedics found the couple pulled over in a parking lot, with the mum-to-be, a woman in her 40s, giving birth in the car.

She was put into an ambulance as her labour continued, eventually giving birth to a baby girl at Westmead Hospital.

Both mother and child are in a stable condition. “This was the first birth I had attended and it was a challenging but rewarding case,” paramedic Jessica Chow said.

“Once we located the woman and her partner she was in the middle of a contraction in the front seat of the car.”

She said the crew sent their “best wishes” to the family.
