Nick McGowan, who is Guy’s childhood friend, will replace Mitch Caitlin for the role.

Catlin resigned after a report in The Age claimed he had asked a wealthy Liberal Party donor to make more than $100,000 in payments to his private marketing business, in addition to his taxpayer-funded salary.

Guy confirmed, McGowan, who is a pre-selected Liberal candidate, won’t campaign for his personal election during his ordinary work hours.

He will also take leave when he officially nominates as a candidate.

“I am proud to call Nick a colleague and friend and look forward to working together to deliver real solutions for all Victorians,” Guy said in a statement.”

“Like so many Victorians, Nick understands the importance of the upcoming election and brings a total focus on delivering real solutions for all Victorians.”

First past the post – but they cheered too soon

McGowan’s first order of business will be to develop a code of conduct for opposition staff in Victoria.

On Monday, Guy continued to refuse to answer ongoing questions about the donor scandal.

“That’s last week, I’m not intending to answer anything on that at all thank you,” he said.

“I have said enough.”
