Life coach and social commentator, Solomon Buchi, has sparked controversy after ridiculing media personality Toke Makinwa for referencing God in her pregnancy announcement.
Makinwa had recently revealed that she prayed to God to make her a mother by the age of 40, a testimony she shared publicly while celebrating the news of her pregnancy.
Reacting in a video posted on his Instagram page, Buchi congratulated the media star but faulted her for associating the announcement with divine intervention.
“I’m happy that Toke is having a child at almost 40; it seems it’s something she really desired as a woman, but I have a problem with mixing Jesus and God with it. She talked about how she had an agreement with God that she really wanted to be a mother,” he said.
Buchi argued that citing God in the testimony was misleading since, according to him, parenthood should ideally be within the context of marriage.
“We really need to be very careful how we mix God with our personal decisions. You are having a child outside of wedlock, there is no need bringing God into that, spiritualizing it. Honestly, you can give your testimony without infusing God into it because according to God’s standard, the only right way to be a parent is in the premise of marriage,” he added.
His remarks have ignited mixed reactions, with many users and celebrities defending Makinwa’s right to share her testimony the way she chooses.
