POLITICO: Californians Hate Newsom's Bid to Redistrict California

God bless Gavin Newsom’s greasy, shiny, pointy head. Lord knows he tries, and he so wants to be the tough guy, ever striving to steal a move on Donald Trump.

I mean, how could he not, gifted as he is with those made-for-TV villain good looks, bright white, tooferery Peposodent smile, and lean, mean build.

The fates, who blessed Newsom with the camera-ready package, forgot to put something of substance within the pret-tee wrapping, darn it.

And this is where the ambitions of California’s own Randall Flagg-Lite come to a screeching halt. In the flailing without a script, in the cringe, empty moments mocking or challenging Trump, when, as he did in the aftermath of the Palisades fire, putting a blank phone to his ear in order to skitter, visibly terrified, from a constituent who only wants answers

When he publicly collapses for lack of active intellect and motivation, the carefully constructed Newsom visuals dissolve.

Yesterday was one of those days, but the first Newsom volley was fired a couple of days ago.

Ooo. Didn’t the Left swoon over the clever Trump parody that came out of the governor’s X account.

It was all to set up a ‘Liberation Day Rally’ (Sound familiar? There’s not an original thought in his empty head) where Governor Newsom and his gang of forty government thieves would spend their time at the podium blasting Donald Trump for his dictatorial inclinations, on everything ranging from abortion to immigration and in between. Newsom would look like a commanding general, daring Trump to step over his redistricting line, and boldly throwing the threat of political doom back at him.

YOU POKED THE BEAR, TRUMP

It was gonna be so awesome. The spectacle Democrats have been craving.

To the desperate eyes of the leftist media, it was…sort of.

Gavin Newsom and California’s political powers are all-in on the Great Blue Gerrymander.

The Democratic state’s leading politicians and its most prominent labor unions put on a show of unity on Thursday at a raucous rally as they gathered to launch a campaign for a new House map that, if voters approve it, would help oust a half-dozen California Republicans.

The event telegraphed how thoroughly Democrats and their allies have coalesced behind a blue-state gerrymandering push — and the extent to which California, by embracing that effort, now stands at the forefront of combatting President Donald Trump’s agenda.

“We can’t stand back and watch this democracy disappear, district by district, all across this country,” Gov. Gavin Newsom said. “We need to stand up. Not just California: Other states need to stand up.”

The themes of that likely special election came into focus on Thursday: Rally attendees spoke at a podium emblazoned with an “Election Rigging Response Act” sign and held “defend democracy” placards. Details also emerged about the campaign’s backers. A newly unveiled campaign website lists House Democrats’ principal super PAC and Democratic megadonor Bill Bloomfield as initial funders.

There’s not much, in fact, nothing, in the Politico coverage about the energy of the rally’s crowd.

I believe that’s because it was a bit of a disappointment for the distinguished group assembled to speak.

Katy Grimes over at The California Globe had what seems to me to be more balanced coverage of Newsom’s big day.

California Governor Gavin Newsom had a DNC-style rally in Los Angeles Thursday, and invited potty mouth leaders of Planned Parenthood, the California Teachers Association, SEIU CA, Senator Adam Schiff, and other Democrat politicians to speak, all praising abortion, big labor, big teacher labor… Oh, and redistricting, as an after thought.

It was comical to hear Jodi Hicks, CEO & President of Planned Parenthood say “we are doubling down on our values here in California,” and then whine that Planned Parenthood has had their federal funding cut. She was the only speaker to mention “redistricting” up front, but she did it in the context of the “anti-choice justices appointed to the Supreme Court.”

“You take away our freedom; we’ll take away your seats,” Hicks threatened Republicans.

The other speakers were about as eloquent, dropping f-bombs, attempting to connect with other people who drop f-bombs.

“Donald Trump, you have poked the bear, and we will punch back,” Gov. Gavin Newsom said.

Gov. Newsom claims that he is giving back power to the people. Au contraire mon frère… the people already have the power to redraw districts after voters passed a Constitutional Amendment creating an independent Citizens Redistricting Commission via passage of California Proposition 11 in 2008, also known as the “Voters First Act.”

Notably, a brand new Politico poll, found that by a 2 to 1 margin, California voters oppose Newsom’s redistricting scheme, the latest POLITICO-Citrin Center-Possibility Lab survey found. “Just 36 percent of respondents back returning congressional redistricting authority to state lawmakers.”

That might explain the sparse attendance – nobody likes these people, and no one supports what they’re doing.

But whoever was up there – Schiff, Maxine Waters, the usual cast of characters – and what came out of their mouth were swiftly forgotten with what happened next.

As they say in these parts, ‘it don’t make no nevermind,’ because no one is talking about the rally’s message. They’re all talking about what was happening on the Los Angeles street outside.

Oh, holy smokes.

The Border Patrol Chief, Greg Bovino, said, ‘Hey. Just doin’ our job keepin’ the streets safe…and what governor where?’

Well, the governor right over here, who had his teeny little party ruined and is now throwing a hissy fit.

Which was NOTHING compared to the complete spazzout performance of the Mayor of Los Angeles when she got in front of cameras.

Man. It was a beaut.

…”WHY would you do that?!”

“There is NO WAY this was a coincidence! […] They decided they were gonna come and thumb their nose in front of the governor’s face!”

This is just COMPLETELY unacceptable! […] There was NO NEED to detain anyone here!

Mayor Bass is still, besides shaking with anger, a little shaky on the whole ‘rule of law’ concept.

Thank goodness Acting U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli is willing to constantly reschool her.

As for Randall Flagg’s planned ‘WAKE UP, AMERICA!’ splash on the national consciousness with his big rally?

It’s kind of been blown all to bits by the sudden ICE flow.

What a pity they can’t get their act together.

Maybe the people in California will finally do it for them.
