A upscale bar and restaurant in Adelaide has announced a radical decision to limit entry to people aged 21 and over, in a social media post.
Sora on Pirie announced its updated entry policy on Facebook this week.

Leading the charge was the declaration that from 9.30pm, the age limit for entry would be raised to 21.

However, younger people may be allowed at “special/external” events at the discretion of the organisers.

The venue is also enforcing a smart casual dress code, banning activewear and sportswear, tracksuits, caps and sports-branded headwear, denim cut-offs, thongs, sandals, safety boots, and “dirty/scruffy” sneakers.

Hoodies, torn jeans, and non-branded headwear may be permitted if the outfit passes muster at the door.

Equal Opportunity SA’s website states that age is a protected category in anti-discrimination laws, including in “seeking goods and services”, which covers restaurants.

However, Sora’s website states that dinner service hours are from Wednesday to Saturday between 5pm and 9.30pm – exactly the time when the 21-year age limit kicks in.

And private venues such as bars and clubs in general exercise broad discretion over conditions of entry.

Reactions beneath the post online have largely been positive so far, with a number of people stating they “loved” the new entry policy.
