Lana is expected to include the track on her long-awaited next album but fans were quick to pick up on the star directly referencing Ethel in the song’s lyrics and confirming their rivalry.

Tagging Jack Antonoff as the song’s producer, Lana’s fans were left stunned to realise she was taking a jab at Ethel.

In the teased lyrics, she can be heard singing: “Ethel Cain hated my Instagram post / Think it’s cute reenacting my Chicago pose.”

Many fans were quick to assume that Lana was making a dig at Ethel for posing for photos with Lana’s ex-boyfriend, Jack Donoghue, a musician in the band Salem.

Ethel posted a photo alongside Jack that was very similar to one shared by Lana whilst she was in a relationship with the hunk.

Not much was known about Lana and Jack’s romance but they were believed to be romantically involved between 2022 and 2024.

Whilst Jack and Ethel also appeared to hang out with one another at one time, it has never been clarified if they dated.

Jack is also understood to have dated Julia Fox and Courtney Love as well as sharing photos to his own social media accounts kissing different men in the past.

However, Lana continued to fuel rumours of a rift with Ethel with even more lyrics which appeared to be directed at her.

One part of the track contained the words: “The most famous girl at the Waffle House / I don’t regret it / The most famous girl at the Waffle House.”

This appeared to be in reference to a 2023 New York Times profile piece on Ethel which referred to her in the headline as “the most famous girl at the Waffle House”.

Ethel soon confirmed the feud with her own social media post when she took to Instagram to confirm she had been blocked by her music rival.

In a post she shared to her story, Ethel wrote: “Update: Lana Del Ray has blocked Ethel Cain on Instagram.”

The drama continued when Lana went on to leave a length Instagram comment about what was behind her sudden feud with her musical counterpart.

Lana explained: “I didn’t know who Ethel was until a few years ago — when someone brought to my attention the disturbing and graphic side-by-side images she would often put up of me next to unflattering creatures and cartoon characters making constant comments about my weight, I was confused at what she was getting at.

“Then when I heard what she was saying behind closed doors from mutual friends and started inserting herself into my personal life I was definitely disturbed.”
