Prince Harry and Meghan’s Humiliating Netflix Deal Has the Royal Family Worried and ‘Concerned’ For 1 Reason

In July, there were reports that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s mega deal with Netflix was coming to an end and the streaming giant would not be renewing their contract.

The news didn’t come as a total shock considering that since inking their deal in 2020, the pair only managed to deliver one successful program, which was their documentary Harry & Meghan about their lives as senior royals and leaving the Firm.

They followed that up with Live to Lead and Heart of Invictus, which were both flops. In 2024, Prince Harry released his docuseries Polo, which ranked at a disastrous No. 3,436 out of 7,000 shows on the streaming platform. The duchess’s lifestyle show, which dropped in March 2025, didn’t pull in stellar numbers either, ranking at No. 383 on the company’s semi-annual report. However, all was not lost.

In August, the Sussexes announced that they still have a partnership with Netflix in the form of a multi-year, first-look deal for film and television projects. But it’s nothing close to the $100 million deal they once had, ad it’s a huge “financial loss.” Page Six reported that the prince and former Suits star re-signed with a follow-up deal that an insider admitted to us was “not much” and is “no risk for Netflix but saves them both reputationally.”

Even with this type of a deal, a royal expert says the royals aren’t comfortable at all and “concerned” about it. Read on to find out why.

Why the royals are worried over Meghan and Harry’s minor Netflix deal

So why would Harry’s family be “concerned” with this new, minor deal that Meghan and Harry worked out with Netflix to save face? According to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, it’s because the royal family still doesn’t trust them.

He told Express: “They will obviously welcome the new Netflix deal as far as it goes, but it may well be for far less than the original was. They have a brand which has considerable reach, but one must ask, is the new deal a fig leaf to hide their failure to be A-listers in Hollywood?

“Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s Content Officer, whilst praising the Sussexes, laid special emphasis on how popular ‘Harry and Meghan,’ their kiss and tell series, where they gave viewers a unique glimpse into their personal lives and also attacked the royal family, was. Let’s just hope, as things seem so uncertain for them, that they aren’t planning another such series!”

Fitzwilliams added: “This will concern the royal family as they don’t trust the Sussexes and they did it (a damaging series) before. It is sadly all too clear that, however deplorable it is, it would be very lucrative.”

Season 2 of ‘With Love, Meghan’ takes a different route to make her seem more humble

On Aug. 12, the trailer for the second season of Meghan’s lifestyle show was released. While we know these episodes were shot at the same time as season one and Netflix just released them in two parts, it seems some editing may have gone on to change things up from the first season.

One of the complaints from the first season is how Meghan came off as an expert chef and a know-it-all. Well, Netflix must have heard that criticism because, as The Hollywood Reporter noted, she is “portrayed less like a master chef and more like an appreciative apprentice” in the new season.

Netflix’s official description of With Love, Meghan Season 2 reads: “Meghan returns with a fun and heartwarming new season, welcoming celebrity chefs, talented artists, and beloved friends for hands-on adventures filled with laughter and discovery. From playful cooking challenges to DIY projects, Meghan and her guests explore bold flavors, experiment with new techniques and discover simple ways to add beauty to everyday life. It’s all about embracing playfulness over perfection and finding joy in creating together.”
