Donnie Wahlberg Is ‘Home Sweet Home’ Filming ‘Boston Blue’ in His Hometown

Donnie Wahlberg is back in his hometown, and he couldn’t be happier.

On Monday, the New Kids on the Block member and Boston native shared an update from the set of his new CBS series Boston Blue. While the show has been filming in Toronto, some scenes are also being shot in in Massachusetts’ capital city. Wahlberg posted a series of photos and videos to his Instagram Story of himself hard at work on the streets of Boston.

“Danny Reagan,” he captioned one selfie. “I [Heart] Boston.” He also added the song “Home Sweet Home” by Mötley Crüe to the post.

In other videos, he snapped photos with people on a Boston Duck Tour and chatted with someone about hometown sports while sporting a Boston PD badge.

‘Boston Blue’ premieres this fall

Boston Blue sees Wahlberg reprising his role as NYPD cop Danny Reagan from CBS’ Blue Bloods. In the new show, Danny trades the streets of the Big Apple for a new job in Beantown. What leads him to leave NYC? Danny pulls up stakes after his son, Sean Reagan, decides to take a job with the Boston PD.

Boston Blue is an brand new chapter built on a strong foundation,” the actor teased in a July 17 social media video. “It’s a different story with all the same heart and all the same love and all the same family at its core.”

The much-anticipated Blue Bloods spinoff was announced earlier this year and will premiere Friday, October 17, airing in its parent show’s 10 p.m. timeslot. In addition to Wahlberg, it stars Sonequa Martin-Green as Danny’s new partner Lena Silvers. Like Danny, she’s a member of a proud law enforcement family. Ernie Hudson plays her grandfather, Reverend Peters. Maggie Lawson is Sarah Silver, Marcus Scribner is Jonah Silver, and Gloria Reuben is Mae Silver. Mika Amonsen will play Sean, taking over the role from Andrew Terraciano, who portrayed the character on Blue Bloods.

Bridget Moynahan to appear in ‘Boston Blue’ series premiere

While the rest of the Reagan family won’t be following Danny and Sean to Boston on a full-time basis, Wahlberg has teased guest appearances from some of his Blue Bloods co-stars in the new series. In July, he confirmed that Bridget Moynahan – who played Danny’s sister Erin Reagan – will appear in the series premiere. She’s also directing an episode of the show’s first season.

“Reunited and if feels so good!” he wrote in the July 18 Instagram post. “So excited to have my dear friend, and TV sister @bridgetmoynahan, join me for a special guest appearance in the premiere episode of #BostonBlue! She’ll also be bringing her incredible directing talents to the show this season! More fun (and surprises) to come. Let’s go.”

Boston Blue premieres Friday, October 17 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. Episodes also stream on Paramount+.
