Protesters Arrested at Offices for Sens. Schumer and Gillibrand

An estimated 200 protesters showed up at the New York offices of Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand this afternoon to demand the Senators “Let Gaza live.” They chanted slogans and eventually a number of them were arrested, including some state elected officials.

Anti-Israel New York City Councilwoman Tiffany Caban was arrested along with several other protesters as scores of screaming demonstrators descended on the Manhattan offices of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand Friday, sources told The Post.

Caban joined roughly 200 pro-Palestinian activists from Jewish Voices for Peace who began occupying the Midtown office building at around 12:20 p.m., donning T-shirts with “let Gaza live” emblazoned across them.

Several protesters could be seen being zip tied and led away as NYPD cops forced them out of the building, footage shot by Fox News showed.

Here’s what the protest sounded like:

The noise went on for quite a while:

Eventually police started making arrests:

Some of the people who volunteered to be arrested were city and state elected officials.

The outrage directed at the two Democratic senators has been building for some time but the most recent cause is their decision to vote against an effort by Sen. Bernie Sanders to block the sale of arms to Israel.

The Senate on Wednesday voted down a resolution to bar U.S. arms sales to Israel, exposing new divisions among Democrats and highlighting rising frustration with the country’s conduct in Gaza.

The first of two votes pushed by progressive Sen. Bernie Sanders — which came to 27-70 — renewed efforts to halt American weapons transfers in protest of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza and a deepening humanitarian crisis. Democrats split on the vote, with 12 new supporters who previously backed arms sales to Israel.

“This resolution is absolutely necessary because the United States will have no credibility in the international community if we don’t stand up against this,” said Sanders, an Independent.

This is the third time Sen. Sanders has tried to block arms sales to Israel. This latest attempt got a lot more support than previous efforts but Sens. Schumer and Gillibrand voted against it.

Sen. Gillibrand was already drawing protests from socialists over her negative comments about Zohran Mamdani.

And of course Sen. Schumer has been hated by the left ever since his decision not to shut down the government back in March. Simply put, these two are targets for the left because they are seen as moderates who don’t resist hard enough. Their refusal to cut military support to Israel is just one more reason for the left to protest them.

Finally, it’s probably a given that everyone arrested today will be released and all charges against them will be dropped. That’s how things work in DA Alvin Bragg’s city.
