The discovery in Port Lincoln comes amid a six-week-long investigation into the death of Story, who was allegedly murdered by his partner, former Beauty and the Geek contestant Tamika Chesser.
Yesterday was meant to be just a regular walk for Tyson McCallum and his dogs, until Benji the Beaglier found what police believe is Story’s head.
“I just went in a bit closer and kind of made the connection pretty quickly as to what I thought it was,” said McCallum.
“(It was) pretty surreal to be honest,” he added.
“I was kind of like ‘No way, it’s not what I think it is, surely not’. But it was too coincidental.”
Police are confident the remains are those of Story, however, forensic testing is required to confirm the identification, which is expected to provide some closure for his family.
“They’ve obviously been through a lot, can’t even imagine it, to have it I guess finalised, they can get some closure which will hopefully bring them some peace,” said McCallum.
Chesser remains before the courts accused of killing Story before beheading and discarding his remains.
Police and the State Emergency Service conducted further searches of the reserve where the skull was found today, with cadaver dogs were deployed to locate any additional remains.
Forensic officers have seized several items from the scene, which have been transported to Adelaide for forensic analysis.
As for Benji, McCallum said “he will definitely get a few extra treats” following his discovery.
