James Craig Murder Trial: ‘Family Man’ Colorado Dentist Allegedly Poisons Wife in Hospital, Then Asks Doctors to Stop Treating Her

The murder trial against a former Colorado dentist accused of poisoning his wife continued Tuesday morning in Aurora.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, James Toliver Craig, 47, is charged with first-degree murder for the death of his wife, Angela Craig, 43, a mother of six who passed away on March 18, 2023.

Investigators alleged that Angela died from consuming lethal levels of tetrahydrozoline, a decongestant commonly used in eye drops, and cyanide.

Craig allegedly purchased cyanide and arsenic days before Angela died, after searching the internet for how to commit poisoning. Around the time of the killing, he was also dealing with financial troubles and having an extramarital affair.

On Monday, a toxicology expert revealed that Angela Craig had nearly twice the lethal limit of cyanide in her system at her time of death.

Medical personnel then took the stand and described their attempts to treat Angela in 2023. They noted their confusion over her rapid decline after the defendant was alone with her in a hospital room, according to Denver’s ABC 7.

Craig later allegedly told medical staff to stop working on his wife, adding that “she would want us to stop.”

A forensic toxicologist confirmed that blood tests indicated cyanide had been administered while she was hospitalized on March 15, 2023.

Also on Monday, Angela’s friend, Nicole Harmon, testified that Angela sent her a message a week before her death, asking for assistance with her blood sugar.

Harmon, who has a daughter with type 1 diabetes, arrived at her friend’s Aurora home with diabetic testing supplies, to find Angela curled up and not feeling well.

Craig had allegedly made Angela a workout smoothie that morning, according to testimony.

“She hadn’t eaten. She couldn’t stand,” Harmon testified.

Harmon said she contacted the defendant, who brushed off his wife’s illness as “Post-COVID,”  and “not diabetes.”

Harmon also testified that in 2019, James Craig confessed that he tried to inject himself with poison after drugging Angela “so she wouldn’t stop him,” FOX News Digital reports.

“He told us he had been dealing with sexual addiction for a long time, and that it had gotten to a point where he was going to, or had, thought about killing himself… He used the term sexual addiction, there was no specification,” Harmon said.

“He told us that one night, he was planning to inject himself with something to kill himself, and he had drugged Angie to make sure that she didn’t wake up and stop him.”

Meanwhile, Craig is also facing two counts of solicitation to commit tampering with physical evidence, two counts of solicitation to commit perjury, and one count of solicitation to commit murder.

Craig also allegedly flew his orthodontist lover to Denver from Texas while his wife was in the hospital, dying.

He has pleaded not guilty. Check back for updates.
