The Jets players got their first look at their renovated locker room Tuesday when they reported to training camp.
“It’s unbelievable,” veteran defensive tackle Quinnen Williams said. “It’s super nice. The new things that we’ve got. It’s super dope. The new chairs are really comfortable and nice.”
The Jets gave the locker room and surrounding areas a major face-lift.
They added a barber shop and replaced the old lockers with high-tech lockers that feature video screens, more storage space and leather chairs to replace the old stools players used to sit in.
Williams said the locker room is a show of commitment from owner Woody Johnson and the organization that the players appreciate, but it’s not the only thing they’ve done.
“It’s unbelievable to see them make the effort,” Williams said. “It’s not just the locker room. To pay the players like you just saw and to get the locker room. You see those efforts. This organization and Woody as an owner want to see this team be successful and want to see this team go in the right direction when it comes down to winning football games, when it comes to being a healthy environment, when it comes down to doing the necessary things to put the players in the position to win football games. You take your hat off to that and just know that you have an owner that stands behind you and wants to see you be great on the field and off the field.”
Williams had some high praise for coach Aaron Glenn, comparing him to legends Bill Parcells and Nick Saban, his college coach at Alabama.
“I’ve never been around Bill Parcells,” Williams said. “I get a lot of the stories and stuff since I’ve been here. To see a guy that kind of exemplifies all the stories I’ve heard about Bill Parcells is kind of like, I see what people are talking about when it comes down to the things that Bill Parcells did and how he acted and how he conducted himself and the things he did to lead the team to success. Coach Glenn got every single aspect of what I went through with coach Saban and the stories I hear about Bill.”
The Jets released OL Obinna Eze on Tuesday. … The team has its first training camp practice Wednesday morning. The first one open to the public is Friday.
