Kensington Palace makes correction after blunder on Prince George’s birthday.
Prince William and the Princess of Wales‘ (formerly known as Kate Middleton) oldest child, Prince George, is celebrating a birthday today.
Kensington Palace shared a photo as they normally do to mark the future king’s special day, but several fans caught an error that someone behind the scenes missed before it was corrected.
Instead of just one photo being posted on the X, there were two. The images were the same but the captions were different, showing that the social media coordinator forgot to delete one image after editing another.
In the snap, George is wearing a friendship bracelet on his left wrist and smiling in a button-down shirt and fleece as he leans on a wooden gate in Norfolk. The message that accompanied the first image shared in the morning on July 22 read, “Happy 12th Birthday to Prince George!” followed by a cake emoji.
However, eagle-eyed royal fans noticed a major gaffe when the same image was shared again 10 minutes later. The second post had the same 12th birthday message but it also included credit to the photographer Josh Shinner. Eventually, someone behind the scenes noticed that there were two posts and took the first one down.
The Waleses have used Shinner’s photography services before, including for Prince Louis’ 7th birthday. It’s believed that the decision to go with a professional photographer for the birthday portraits may stem from the backlash Kate faced in the past after she edited a family photo.
