An unidentified woman is recorded by diners at Toorak Cellars in Armadale

This is the snarky video that has been the talk of Melbourne for the past week.

Secretly recorded by diners at Armadale wine bar Toorak Cellars last Friday, the footage allegedly shows an unidentified woman walking through the swanky venue, followed about 20 seconds later by a former AFL footballer.

The clip was posted to an Instagram account with 40,000 followers the following day, and has since been widely shared in WhatsApp group chats.

We won’t repeat what is being suggested, only that the woman in the video insists what is being alleged ‘did not happen’ – and we don’t suggest otherwise.

There is now heated debate among Melbourne’s chattering classes over what the footage actually shows: Is it what the WhatsApp gossips claim? Or simply two innocent people walking through a bar?

The video begins with the woman emerging from the left of the frame and climbing a small flight of stairs, past several diners filming her.

One of the women behind the camera snipes, ‘We got you on camera.’ Another adds, ‘She looks embarrassed.’

About 20 seconds later, the ex-footballer emerges. Immediately, one of the women filming recognises him and gasps, ‘Oh, wow.’

As another patron passes by, the AFL star takes out his mobile phone and a diner is overheard joking, ‘Are you phoning a friend?’

‘His wife?’ another responds. A third woman adds, ‘That’s what I was about to say.’

The man then climbs the stairs and ambles past the group of women who are recording him, before the video ends.

Daily Mail Australia has not identified the footballer or the woman for legal reasons.

Herald Sun gossip columnist Jackie Epstein spoke to the footy player in question, who issued an anonymous statement.

‘I unequivocally condemn this act of cyber-bullying and harassment,’ he said.

‘It is reprehensible and deeply concerning that individuals, often anonymous, can orchestrate and spread false narratives with virality, solely to slut-shame and target women.

‘This insidious behaviour not only perpetuates dangerous stereotypes but also fundamentally erodes personal dignity and human decency. Those responsible must be held fully accountable for their actions.’

The woman in the video also hit back in a post on her private Instagram on Sunday, taking aim at the diners who filmed her at Toorak Cellars.

‘Shame on you women, we are better than that. It did not happen, but that’s not the point. It’s time this narrative changed,’ she wrote.

Her account was then deactivated.

A staff member at Toorak Cellars told Daily Mail Australia they were aware of a video being circulated, but could not confirm or deny anything.

They said employees were not present and it ‘was just punters videoing’.

‘We have nothing to say,’ they added.
