A child has been shot in the leg during a hunting trip in north-west NSW overnight.

The nine-year-old child suffered a gunshot wound to his right thigh at a property 40km north of Bourke.

He was taken to Bourke hospital at 7.15pm yesterday.

The boy was part of a group of nine people who were visiting from Victoria. There were four boys aged between nine and 15 and four men aged 37 to 63.

NSW Police are investigating the incident, with 17 guns seized, including air rifles, rifles and a shotgun.

Inquiries into the group’s firearms licences are ongoing.
