Friday's Final Word

Everybody’s rioting for the weekend

Ed: To be fair, Vance could have just stopped at “enforcing laws.” Only Democrats get to do that, apparently. Child labor trafficking is A Totally Brave American Thing for Dems when a Republican is in the White House.

  • Farmers who rely on noncitizen workers — who make up as much as 40% of the agricultural labor market — are howling that Trump’s mass deportation program is damaging the labor market, and could therefore threaten the food supply.
  • But Trump’s MAGA base wants to ratchet up deportations, saying the administration shouldn’t allow employers to incentivize illegal immigration by granting “amnesty” to certain noncitizen workers.

===

Ed: Quelle surprise. Newsom benefits from child labor trafficking. No wonder he was so upset when ICE put an end to it.

The discussions are still in the early stages, border czar Tom Homan told POLITICO’s Dasha Burns during The Conversation, but he noted that the departments of Labor, State and Agriculture are all working on a policy solution. Homan insisted that there will be “no amnesty” for undocumented farm workers and said the administration will not “greenlight” businesses “knowingly breaking immigration laws.”

“No one hires an illegal alien out of the goodness of their heart,” Homan said. “They hire them because they can work them harder, pay them less, and undercut their competition with U.S. citizen employees. … And many, many illegal aliens do not pay taxes. They’re paid under the table. The employers don’t pay employee taxes, they don’t pay unemployment insurance. So they’re cheating the system.”

Ed: The flood of illegal and cheap labor does real damage to lower-wage workers, while allowing business operators to inflate profits. Back in the day, Democrats would side with workers over business interests, but those days are well behind them now.

The lawsuit alleges that the Washington Post, BBC, AP, and Reuters colluded with one another and with the large digital platforms to deplatform and suppress competition from independent perspectives that rival mainstream media for sharing independent news and opinion related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ed: This is what I voted for. Let’s expose all of this, as soon as possible, and ensure consequences severe enough to ensure that no one tries this again in the future.

By the way, if you’re digging the Last Word posts and would like to join the conversation, this is a great reminder of why our VIP membership program is so vital. This same collusion by the Protection Racket Media and the Biden administration tried hard to put us out of business by driving off advertisers, in order to stifle debate and dissent. Trump, impatient with Putin’s unwillingness to entertain even a temporary ceasefire, has grown warmer towards the idea of a sanctions bill which has encouraged the Senate to act. After previously calling the bill “very harsh,” Trump now says that he is now “looking at” the measure “very strongly.”

Though Trump is now more open to the measure, a source familiar with the president’s thinking told Just the News that he would want adjustments to the current bill in order to provide more flexibility.

“The bill’s current provisions do not provide enough flexibility to the president to carry out his desired foreign policy,” the source told Just the News. “The White House is working with the legislature and sponsors to ensure that the bill is an enhancement to the president’s foreign policy objectives and authorities.”

Ed: The ground is shifting on Putin. But how much? Well …

===

Ed: I suspect that Trump meant the sanctions bill by “things,” but also expedited arms transfers to Ukraine. And judging by the Moscow Window Flu outbreaks (and variants) the last couple of weeks, the pressure may be starting to bite — not to mention the example Trump just made of Iran.

Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino has told people he is considering resigning amid a major clash between the FBI and Justice Department over the continued fallout from the release of the Jeffrey Epstein memo, several sources familiar with the matter told CNN.

This comes after a heated confrontation with Attorney General Pam Bondi over the handling of the case earlier this week.

The infighting over the case came to a head during a Wednesday meeting, which included Bongino, Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, sources said. Bongino and Patel were confronted about whether they were behind a story that said the FBI wanted more information released but was ultimately stymied by the Department of Justice, the sources said.

Ed: This has been utterly botched by Bondi, who really should do better than this. Let’s hope cooler heads prevail and everyone can focus on the need for accountability in many other areas other than Epstein.
