Florida Man Steals Key West Tour Train for Birthday Joyride

A Florida man celebrated his birthday last week by smoking methamphetamine and stealing a Key West tour train for a joyride.

Jonathan Patrick Winslow even picked up passengers as he made his way through the streets of Key West driving a stolen Conch Train on July 4, his 57th birthday, WPLG reported.

Police said they were called to the Conch Tour Train Depot at around 11:30 a.m. by employees who reported the train stolen and said they were tracking around downtown with its onboard GPS.

Winslow left his own vehicle behind, still running “with rock music playing on the radio.”

Employees said Winslow had come in and claimed to be a former employee, asking for a tour of the train. Then he got in and drove off.

Another employee picked up the train near Duval and United streets, according to police, who said Winslow had picked up “two random passengers” during his jaunt.

They found Winslow near the Southernmost Point Buoy, where he “exhibited rapid speech and appeared excited.” He claimed merely to have “borrowed” the train when police informed him he was facing charges. He said he used to work for the Conch Train company and “today is his birthday.”

At the jail, police found a pipe in Winslow’s pocket, which he claimed was “a weed pipe.” But police found it was actually a meth pipe.

Winslow has been charged with burglary, grand theft auto, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He’s being held on a $60,000 bond.
