‘I Want That Baby’: Random Woman Breaks Into Home to Steal Infant From Family

Iowa police arrested a woman on Monday who allegedly broke into a home and tried to steal an 11-month-old baby.

Jennifer Webster, 49, reportedly knocked on a door in Davenport and asked a resident, the baby’s great-grandmother, for water. The woman gave Webster a bottle of water and shut the door — but Webster knocked on the door again minutes later, according to KWQC.

The great-grandmother reportedly told Webster that she could not come in — leading Webster to barge in while hollering, “I want that baby.” Webster then allegedly grabbed the infant from a high chair while fighting the great-grandmother.

KWQC reported that Davenport police responded to the residence and witnessed Webster on the floor while squeezing the infant’s throat. The infant was heard screaming and gasping for air.

A police officer struck Webster after she refused to release the baby during the three-minute altercation. Webster and the baby were hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries.

An order of protection was filed against Webster, who is charged with second-degree kidnapping of someone younger than 18, child stealing, interference with official acts, and first-degree burglary.

Davenport police said Webster did not know the baby or anyone who lived at the home where Monday’s incident transpired.
