Horror at holiday beach as teenage boy is attacked by a shark

A teenage boy has been seriously injured after he was attacked by a shark while swimming at a northern NSW beach on Sunday.

Emergency services were called to Cabarita Beach, between Tweed Head and Byron Bay, around 3.50pm on Sunday following reports of a shark attack.

The boy sustained injuries to his right upper arm, wrist and right leg.

Surfers and two off-duty paramedics rushed to the boy’s aid, applying a tourniquet to help restrict the bleeding.

He was airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

The boy remains in a serious but stable condition.
