There's Been a Mass Shooting in Nimes, France

Ghastly.

Most reports say that there have been six injured in the attack, and one critically. According to the Mirror, that area of Nimes is notorious for drug gangs and the crime that comes with it.

One person is in a serious condition and five others have also been injured after a shooting in Nimes today.

It took place in the Pissevin district of Nîmes which is known for its drug crime.

“A shooting took place this evening resulting in several injuries. Investigations are underway,” noted the deputy public prosecutor of Nîmes.

Unfortunately, that area has been a hotbed of drug-related gang violence and criminal activity, as well as dueling anti-Semitic and anti-Islamic attacks.

Two years ago, the French were horrified when a ten-year-old boy was shot and killed while a passenger in a vehicle that was ‘mistakenly’ targeted, and then just four days later, they found an 18-year-old victim expiring on the streets.

According to police and the Nîmes public prosecutor’s office, emergency services were called just before 4am and found the young man wounded in the abdomen and unconscious in a street in Pissevin, a group of tower blocks on the western outskirts of the city.

Shell casings of two different calibres – including 7.62 mm rounds – were reportedly found at the scene.

The public prosecutor’s office said in a statement that the victim, who was “known to the police and judicial authorities”, came from a town outside Nîmes. It added that the nearby Montpellier judicial police had been informed of his death.

It was in Pissevin – where the poverty rate is over 70 percent and drug trafficking is rife – that a 10-year-old child died on Monday evening when the driver of the car in which he was travelling was mistakenly targeted by gunmen.

The videos of gang members brazenly roaming the streets with weapons is like something out of a movie.

Police have blanketed that area after terrified residents testified about hearing automatic weapons fire, and, judging by the video, it seems that’s what all the ‘in’ gangs are using.

Police swarm Nimes after reports of ‘automatic weapons’ used in attack

Witnesses have told of automatic weapons used in a shooting in a district of Nimes with police now swarming the area.

An investigation has been opened with the deputy police chief on the scene and overseeing a probe into what has happened.

According to reports, people opened fire with possibly automatic weapons and while no motive has been ruled out, it is thought that it could be due to a drug turf war.

It’s not that the local government hasn’t tried to get a handle on the escalating violence, but it seems their efforts have met with resistance. According to one French report, the brand-new police station, built in 2024, also had a fatal accident.

…According to initial findings, the shots came from a heavy weapon, Le Midi Libre reports. The Nîmes prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation, entrusted to the Specialized Organized Crime Division (DCOS) of Gard and Hérault. This latest episode of armed violence comes in a region already scarred by several fatal shootings, including the one in August 2023 that claimed the life of a 10-year-old child, and the one in February 2024.

Despite the opening of a police station in the area in August 2024, which quickly burned down, the security situation remains worrying.

None of the three suspects reported to have taken part have been apprehended yet.

As one fellow who immigrated to France himself has said, these insular communities are their own worst enemies, and ignoring the facts about the crimes perpetrated by those who live there does no one any favors.

At Times, Some Immigrants In France are Their own Worst Disasters.

The majority of drug trafficking, arson attacks involving cars, and gang-related activities in France are carried out by young French people from minority backgrounds. We cannot ignore these issues and hope they will disappear by themselves.

As a Frenchman of Congolese descent, it is not surprising that I come from an immigrant family, even though I adore my country of birth and feel just as at home there as I do in my other nations of origin. With that said, I’m sick and tired of some issues being swept under the rug, and it’s not benefiting communities in various inner cities outside of large urban areas and towns across the country. There have been many lost bullets, hitting innocent people whose lives have been stolen away by gangs and drug traffickers, and in many French cities, and I can no longer keep silent and overlook this situation; it is time to call it what it is. The sad reality is that the majority of drug traffickers in France are young and middle-aged men who reside in suburban communities populated mainly by middle- to low-income and immigrant families on the outskirts of major cities.

In cities like Paris, Marseille, Grenoble, Nîmes, Nantes, and much of the country — the country has been dealing with violent crimes related to drug trafficking; most of those violent activities have been committed by young and middle-aged men from low-income suburbs; in most cases, they are Black, Arab, Roma, Hispanic and sometimes even East Europeans. It doesn’t mean that there aren’t ethnically white French drug traffickers who are also responsible for violent crimes related to their activities, but the sad truth is that statistics don’t lie.

There are UNESCO World Heritage sites in Nimes, including one absolutely spectacular Roman arena and a temple, besides being the birthplace of denim.

Consult your guidebooks carefully before you schedule a trip, though.

A major manhunt is underway in southern France after six people were shot in a bloodbath in a city district notorious for drug crime — with one victim left fighting for life.

That’s becoming a truism for quite a bit of Europe.
