Police were called to an apartment block on Oriel Road in Clayfield, at about 8.15pm yesterday, where they found a 58-year-old man dead at the property.
Detective Acting Superintendent Craig Williams said about 30 people were at the house, including a large number of teenagers.
A 15-year-old boy, who police say was known to the 58-year-old, was found in Barlow Street and taken into custody.
He has been charged with one count of murder.
It’s understood it was the 15-year-old who called Triple Zero.
Williams said the alleged murder weapon had been located.
“This is a tragic incident that will affect the family, the community as a whole and other young persons who were at the house at the time,” Williams said.
He said a number of teenagers were taken to the police station in order for their parents to be contacted.
They are assisting police and were not involved in the incident, he said.
The teen has been refused police bail and will appear in court today.
The apartment remains an active crime scene.
