HGTV Just Canceled This Fan-Favorite Show After 4 Seasons: ‘Unexpected News’

HGTV has canceled a fan-favorite series. Married to Real Estate will not return for a fifth season, host Egypt Sherrod announced on June 25.

‘Married to Real Estate’ canceled, Egypt Sherrod announces

Sherrod announced the disappointing news in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

“Mike and I just landed back in the States after an unforgettable family trip through the Mediterranean, and we’re met with the unexpected news: HGTV has decided not to move forward with Married to Real Estate,” she wrote.

Sherrod and her husband, Mike Jackson, have hosted Married to Real Estate since 2022. Previously, she hosted the HGTV series Flipping Virgins from 2015 to 2018.

“While the chain of events leading up to this is disheartening, we are deeply grateful,” she said. “Grateful for four incredible seasons. Grateful for our amazing crew and supportive fans. Grateful that our businesses continue to thrive. And most of all – grateful that we are still very much married to real estate (and each other).”

Sherrod said she would have “more to say” about Married to Real Estate’s unexpected cancellation in the future. In the meantime, she’s not letting this “setback” distract her from her goals.

“Some blessings show up in disguise,” she wrote. “We’ve been here before. We’ll keep counting those blessings – and keep it moving. Stay tuned.”

Jackson also struck a positive note in a comment on his wife’s post.

“God makes no mistakes,” he wrote. “However, people and opinions do. We’ll discuss that on a later date though. We thank all the FAMS for rocking with us through it all. We appreciate the love and support. We’re not done. We got us.”

Fellow HGTV star ‘shocked’ to hear ‘Married to Real Estate’ is canceled

Commenters on Sherrod’s post expressed their disappointment – and bafflement – that the show was not picked up for another season. Even one of her fellow HGTV personalities was stunned by the news.

“You know, in general I thought I had decent gauge about what TV executives wanted and the last few years have completely shattered that,” Rock the Block host Ty Pennington wrote. “Seriously shocked to hear this! Ya’ll are true professionals and I especially loved the designs from the last season.”

Meanwhile, Christina Haack shared some words of support.

“You guys are amazing and will thrive at anything and everything you do!!” the Christina on the Coast star commented.

Married to Real Estate followed Sherrod and Jackson as they juggled raising their three children with running their business renovating homes in the Atlanta area. (He’s a contractor, while she handles design.)

“We would describe it as us living our lives and all that that entails running three businesses, raising three kids, you know?” Sherrod told Showbiz Cheat Sheet ahead of the show’s premiere in 2022. “You know, keeping our 17-and-a-half-year marriage going strong. Oh, and by the way, the cameras are there.”
