R. Kelly’s lawyer is pushing for the singer to be moved to home confinement after he overdosed in a prison sell. They say the overdose is part of a larger murder plot.

R. Kelly’s lawyer is speaking out after it was revealed that the “Ignition” singer spent time in a North Carolina hospital this month after an alleged overdose inside his prison cell. Kelly’s lawyer, Beau Brindley, insists the overdose is directly related to an alleged murder plot. Brindley revealed the alleged plot before the overdose occurred. The disgraced singer’s legal team wants Kelly removed from the prison where he is serving a 30-year prison sentence.

R. Kelly’s lawyer says a medicine overdose was part of a larger murder plot

R. Kelly was rushed to a North Carolina hospital late last week after he allegedly received excess medication from prison staff. According to Page Six, Kelly was given his typical medication while in solitary confinement, but was approached again by prison officials later and given more medicine. He allegedly took the pills, only to wake up feeling faint. He was then rushed to a hospital, where he says doctors determined he was suffering from a potentially life-threatening overdose.

While the type of medication the singer was given was not revealed, his lawyer, Beau Brindley, insists the June 13 incident is directly related to a much larger murder plot. The alleged plot was made public earlier this month when Brindley filed an emergency motion to have Kelly moved from his current federal prison. Kelly’s legal team alleged that they have knowledge of ongoing threats to Kelly’s life. The motion suggests officials with the Bureau of Prisons are directly involved in the alleged plot.

Brindley and the rest of Kelly’s legal team allege the R&B artist has been denied medical care and has had a bounty of sorts placed on his head by officials. According to the Los Angeles Times, Brindley claims the Aryan Brotherhood is involved in the plot.

An emergency hearing is set for later this week

R. Kelly is reportedly back in solitary confinement, against medical suggestion, as the threat of a murder plot allegedly hangs over his head. He might not need to stay there much longer. Brindley’s goal with his emergency motion is to have Kelly moved out of his current federal prison and placed in home confinement. The request is for a temporary placement. It is unclear what a more permanent placement might look like.

While a federal hearing is set for June 20, prosecutors have already spoken out against the motion. In paperwork obtained by TMZ, prosecutors said, “…this is the behavior of an abuser and a master manipulator on display.”

R. Kelly was convicted of racketeering, sex trafficking, and related charges in 2021. He was also convicted of producing child pornography and enticement of minors in 2023. Both convictions carry heavy sentences, though he is serving them concurrently. He is not eligible for release until December 2045.
