See George Clooney’s reaction after being called an ‘up-and-comer’ during the Tonys 2025

Cynthia Erivo joked that George Clooney was an “up-and-comer” as she hosted the Tony Awards 2025.

“What a season, what a lineup of shows being honored tonight: dramas, comedies, stunning musicals, originals and reimaginations of the highest order,” the “Wicked” actress, 38, said in her opening monologue Sunday.

“Featuring first-time nominees like Cole Escola, Sadie Sink, Louis McCartney — and an up-and-comer that I think you’re going to be hearing a lot about: George Clooney,” she quipped.

“Good for you, George. Things are going your way, I like it a lot for you.”

The camera then panned to the “Ocean’s Eleven” actor, who was seated next to his wife, Amal Clooney.

George, 64, shrugged his shoulders before mouthing, “It’s alright,” as Amal, 47, clapped and laughed at Erivo’s joke.

The Clooneys hit the red carpet together at the Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Amal stunned in an off-the-shoulder Tamara Ralph Couture gown dripping with pearls and matching Roger Vivier pumps, while the “ER” alum looked dapper in a classic black tuxedo.

George also showed off his signature gray hair after he dyed it dark for his Broadway role as journalist Edward R. Murrow in “Good Night, and Good Luck.”

In February, the two-time Oscar winner admitted that the human rights lawyer was “going to hate” his new look.

“My wife is going to hate it because nothing makes you look older than when an older guy dyes his hair,” he told the New York Times.

“My kids are going to just laugh at me nonstop,” the “Ticket to Paradise” actor added, referring to his and Amal’s 8-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella.
