Police say a group of men forced their way into a unit in Maroochydore on April 10 and threatened a 27-year-old man and 29-year-old woman with violence while demanding they hand over a significant amount of money.

They say five men left the unit before officers arrived and arrested two others who had remained.

The two men arrested at the unit were charged with one count each of deprivation of liberty and extortion with intent to gain benefit with threat of detriment.

Last week, detectives travelled to Sydney seeking to extradite the other men alleged to have been involved.

Four men, aged between 27 and 32, were arrested in Sydney’s western suburbs and extradited to Queensland on Friday.

They will face Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

A fifth man will be extradited at a later date due to unrelated medical issues.

Detective Inspector Chris Toohey described the alleged attack as “serious, vicious and premeditated”.

“This investigation outcome should serve as a strong warning criminal behaviour will not be tolerated,” he said.
