Landfill Search Underway for Missing Teen Who Is Possibly Being Held Against His Will

Authorities searched a Minnesota landfill on Friday amid the ongoing disappearance of a 16-year-old boy who vanished last month.

KARE reported that multiple agencies — including the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the FBI — are searching the Elk River Landfill for Jordan Collins Jr. Collins vanished from Columbia Heights on May 8, and authorities said they believe he is being held against his will.

Sheriff Brad Wise said Collins’ social media has been inactive since his reported disappearance, and his mother noted that his phone has been off other than for three minutes on May 11. According to the Star Tribune, Collins’ mother also said her son was visiting his father and planned to return before he vanished.

“We have an idea of what we might be looking for, and we’re going to search until we find that or not find that,” Anoka County Commander Wayne Heath told KARE.

Officials have not disclosed whether Friday’s search means the case has transitioned to a recovery mission. Heath said the landfill search could continue into the weekend.

Collins was described as standing 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighing 140 pounds, and having black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a white ribbed tank top with red and black plaid pants.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension’s tip line at 877-996-6222.
