A Florida mother has been arrested for allegedly providing a false alibi for her teenage son, who was suspected of stabbing another teen.

In a press release posted on their site, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Kayla Cobb, 33, who they said provided police with a false alibi for her 15-year-old son. He was accused by police of “jumping and stabbing” a fellow student near a middle school in Deltona, Florida, on May 14 and was arrested the same day as his mother.

According to court records, Cobb was charged with providing false information to law enforcement during a felony investigation, a misdemeanor. Cobb was booked into the Volusia County Jail on $500 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. Records indicated that the court date was canceled, and Cobb appeared to still be in custody.

In a video posted to Facebook, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said that “Mom provided a false alibi for him that was proven to be a lie.” Her alibi about her son’s whereabouts during the May 14 incident fell apart when cellphone data put him at the scene, the sheriff said.
