George Clooney vows to shave his head if gray hair doesn’t grow out in time for 2025 Tony Awards

George Clooney is desperate to have his signature gray hair back.

The actor revealed that he would rather shave his entire head than show up to the upcoming Tony Awards with the dark brunette locks he’s been sporting for his Broadway debut in “Good Night, and Good Luck.”

“I may have a shaved head. I may look like Yul Brynner,” Clooney, 64, joked Monday during his guest appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” referencing the late actor who famously kept a bald look after shaving it for “The King and I.”

“The last show [for ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’] is Sunday. We do a matinee, and then by the time we go to the Tonys that night [June 8], it’ll be gone,” he added of his temporary ‘do.

Clooney — who sported a baseball hat to cover up his locks during the interview — explained to viewers that his hair was in that awkward stage of growing out since he stopped dying it two months ago.

“It’s bad. It’s still dark on top, but it’s gray at the bottom. So you get that really nice-looking, grow-out of gray,” he shared. “It really looks bad. It looks like [I’m] going through some horrible midlife crisis. I’m 64 — midlife is a little stretch.”

As for how his wife, 47-year-old Amal Clooney, likes it, he quipped, “She’ll be glad when it’s gone.”

George previously joked about how his wife and their two kids — 7-year-old twins Alexander and Ella — weren’t really loving his new look for his Broadway play, either.

“My wife is going to hate it because nothing makes you look older than when an older guy dyes his hair,” he told the New York Times back in February. “My kids are going to just laugh at me nonstop.”

The tradeoff has clearly been worth it, however. George is nominated for best performance for a leading actor in a play at the 2025 Tony Awards for his role as legendary journalist Edward R. Murrow.

The Broadway production is also nominated for best sound design of a play, best scenic design of a play, best costume design of a play and best lighting design of a play.

George recently sported the same gray baseball cap he wore for his talk show appearance while out and about with Amal at the Polo Bar in Midtown over the weekend, where they were joined by Bono and the U2 singer’s wife, Ali Hewson.

The human rights lawyer looked chic in a strapless cherry print Stella McCartney dress that she paired with bronze Gianvitto Rossi heels, while George kept it classic in a navy blue suit.

The 2025 Tony Awards — hosted by “Wicked” star Cynthia Erivo at Radio City Music Hall in New York City — will air live Sunday starting at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
