Kristin Cavallari calls cutting father out of her life the ‘best decision’ she’s ever made

Kristin Cavallari has no regrets about cutting off ties from her father, Dennis Cavallari, after he “crossed the boundary” with her three children.

“I mean, honestly, and this might sound messed up to some people, but it’s the best decision I’ve ever made, cutting my dad out of my life,” the Uncommon James founder told People in an interview published Monday.

“Such a weight has been lifted from me,” she continued. “There’s not one day where I miss him. I don’t know if it was two or three years ago, but I mean, I was an adult, let’s say I was 35. It was 35 years of buildup to that point.”

The fashion designer, 38, shares daughter Saylor, 9, and sons Camden, 12, Jaxon, 11, with her ex-husband Jay Cutler. They tied the knot back in 2013, and divorced in 2020.

The “Laguna Beach” alum did not elaborate on what might have transpired between her father and her children.

She did, however, divulge that she’s “happy” with the decision to cut him out of her life, and that it “was something that I had been wanting to do for a long time.”

“He crossed the boundary with my kids,” she told the outlet, adding that he “couldn’t even apologize” following the event in question.

“Like, you’re just gaslighting me,” she continued. “I don’t have time for that anymore. If someone’s not bringing you joy, if people are only bringing you hurt and sadness and anger, what is the point? Even if it’s a parent, life’s too short.”

This isn’t the first time the mom of three has voiced her dissatisfaction with her father. In a December 2023 episode of her “Let’s Be Honest” podcast, Kristin called him a “narcissist.”

“I cut my dad out of my life about two years ago, which has honestly been the best thing I’ve ever done, really and truly,” she told psychologist Dr. Sherrie Campbell. “I actually didn’t even realize that my dad was a narcissist until I was an adult.”

She also said that, while she had her own issues with her father, it took the incident with her own children to finally push her over the edge.

“I was always like, I can take it. You know,” she said at the time. “I can take the abuse. I have my whole life. But it’s like, when you start now messing with my kids — I’m not doing it.”
