Joss, 59, died on Sunday night after he was shot multiple times at his house in San Antonio, Texas, police told The U.S. Sun.

Cops nabbed suspect Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, 59, just one block away from the crime scene as paramedics urgently tried to save the actor’s life.

First responders performed life-saving measures, but he was declared dead at the scene.

Joss, who was also known for starring in the hit NBC comedy series Parks and Recreation, had just made a difficult journey home the day he was attacked.

In the hours leading up to his death, Joss took to Facebook to desperately request help getting back from Austin, which is about an hour and a half away.

He had just been hosting an event called “The Redcorn Experience,” where he played with his King of the Hill-themed band BigMountainFudgeCake.

“Unfortunately, my former manager did not help me with transportation to get back to San Antonio, which was the plan […] now I’m being ghosted,” Joss wrote at 1:30 pm on Sunday.

“Could anyone please give my husband and I a ride to San Antonio.”

Friends flocked to the comments and quickly helped Joss figure something out. Just minutes later, he said they had found a ride.

“Our ride will arrive in a few hours thank you very much everyone we are grabbing food and feeling thankful for the support,” the actor wrote in what would become his final post hours before he was shot.

Months before the drama with his manager, Joss suffered through a painful tragedy when his childhood home which his father had built by hand burned to the ground.

He was left homeless after a blaze suddenly erupted while he was away one day in January.

The actor’s two dogs were trapped inside, and he described bursting into tears when he found one of their lifeless bodies as he sifted through the blackened mess.

Full statement from Jonathan Joss’s husband

“My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home. That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire. We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done.

Throughout that time we were harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship. Much of the harassment was openly homophobic.

When we returned to the site to check our mail we discovered the skull of one of our dogs and its harness placed in clear view. This caused both of us severe emotional distress. We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw.

While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired.

Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life.

Jonathan is my husband. He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get. We were newlyweds. We picked Valentines Day. We were in the process of looking for a trailer and planning our future.

He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other.

I was with him when he passed. I told him how much he was loved.

To everyone who supported him, his fans, his friends, know that he valued you deeply. He saw you as family.

My focus now is on protecting Jonathan’s legacy and honoring the life we built together.

If your concern is how someone coped with trauma or how loudly they speak when recounting injustice and being ignored by authorities then you never truly cared about my husband.

Jonathan saved my life. I will carry that forward. I will protect what he built.

“I don’t have a job. I don’t have children […] I don’t have a place to stay,” he told ABC affiliate KSAT at the time.

“I’m more concerned about my dog that died, but you know what? The good Lord will protect us.”

But amidst the pain, Joss found bliss when he married husband Tristan on Valentine’s Day after a seven-month engagement.

After the two said their vows, Tristan triumphantly told his friends about the union and described the actor as the “love of my life.”

“Here’s to the best Valentine’s Day ever,” he wrote in the devastating post.

“Here’s to our future together.”

Now, Joss’s social media is flooded with fans sharing their condolences and praying for his family.
