Doctors will walk off the job in South Australia after talks between the union and the state government broke down.

About 2500 to 3000 doctors will stand down from 8.30am to 9.30am on June 25 to discuss the potential of industrial action.

Doctors and the government have been in negotiations for eight months regarding a new enterprise agreement that has culminated in a request from the union two weeks ago for a final round of negotiation.

Ramping at the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) and Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) specifically reached unprecedented levels.

They said the request had gone unanswered and they are now preparing their next steps.

Doctors are requesting a 10 per cent annual pay increase over the next three years, similar to what was offered to police.

They say fair pay is essential to retaining trainee doctors in South Australia and securing the future of the medical workforce for the next decade.
