New York Fugitive Accused of Killing Father Found Dead in Homeowner’s Pool

Police believe they have found the body of a wanted fugitive accused of killing his father in a homeowner’s swimming pool in New York.

Around 4:20 p.m. Sunday, a Long Island homeowner in East Shoreham, preparing his pool for summer, removed the cove and discovered a body. The Suffolk County Police Department (SCPD) said the body belonged to Matthew Zoll, 23, according to FOX News.

Zoll had been wanted in connection with the suspected murder of his father, Joseph. On November 9, 2024, Joseph, 61, called 911 and reported that his son had stabbed him. Joseph did not survive his injuries, NBC New York reported.

During a November press conference, police said Zoll fled the scene in a black SUV, which he later crashed. The crash occurred near the home where Zoll’s body was found.

In a bizarre twist, NBC New York reported that the homeowner is a member of the U.S. Marshals Task Force and is believed to have spent time searching for Zoll.

It remains unclear how the body ended up in the law enforcement officer’s pool, but it appears to have been there for an extended period.

The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to confirm the identity and determine the cause of death, according to FOX News.
