THE son of a star actor known for his role in The Wire is fighting for his life after he was ripped from their family home by a terrifying tornado.
Tray Chaney broke down in tears as he described the moment his beloved son Malachi was thrown a football field away by the twister that leveled their house.
“I lost my house. I love everything in it,” the emotional father said in a video on Instagram.
“I wish I could replace the pain with my son.
“I wish he was the one doing the video and I was still in the ICU.”
Chaney, who starred as Malik “Poot” Carr in the award-winning HBO series, has opened up about the moment the tornado tore through their neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday at 3:30 pm.
The family had just gotten home from an outing with his The Wire costar Felicia Pearson when the twister touched down.
The devastated actor said that their entire home was gone in a “split-second” and that he blacked out when the building came crashing down.
When he woke up, his face was in the mud, and parts of his home were piled on his back.
Terrified, Chaney leapt up and started screaming for his 18-year-old son Malachi, but he couldn’t find him.
Eventually, he found the unconscious teen 300 feet from their home.
Malachi is still in critical condition and suffering from broken ribs and a fractured facial bone, and Chaney said it will be a “long journey” before he’s recovered.
“Malachi is in this hospital fighting and me and my wife have not and will not leave his side,” he wrote on Instagram.
“The worst pain of my entire life as a father watching my son in this hospital bed in so much pain.
“Take the house, take the money, take the cares all the material things I just want my son back in great health like he was.”
Chaney and his wife Ayesha have started a GoFundMe to raise money for hospital bills and expenses for rebuilding their home.
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness and support during this difficult time,” the GoFundMe reads.
“We’re doing our best to stay strong and hopeful, and your generosity helps more than you know.”
Chaney’s neighbors said they felt lucky to be alive when they emerged from their damaged homes after the storm.
“I happened to look out our sliding glass door and I saw a rotation start forming literally in my backyard,” Courtney Bucio told NBC affiliate WXIA.
“I just ran for the closet and covered my head.”
Officials say that two were injured in the natural disaster, and no one was killed.
“Just very blessed to be alive,” Bucio said.
STANDOUT STAR
Chaney, who is from Maryland, got his big break auditioning for The Wire, which was a five-season drama centered around crime in Baltimore that ran from 2002 to 2008.
He was initially hoping to be cast as Wee-Bey Brice, but the producers liked him so much they wrote the role for him.
Chaney still keeps up with his co-stars and is hoping that he can score interviews with every cast member for an epic reunion.
The cast tragedy comes years after The Wire star Michael K Williams died from using fentanyl-laced heroin.
