A toddler has died after being struck by an SUV in a car park outside a tyre shop in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.

The mother of the boy and her two children were leaving the tyre shop when the youngest child was struck.

Emergency services responded to the scene at about 11am, but were unable to save the child’s life despite the assistance of bystanders.

“A fella was actually at the trailer yard trying to hire a trailer, he just pulled up, and he basically jumped straight out of his car went over and I believe he was the first one to perform CPR,” witness Shane Taylor said.

It is understood the driver of the SUV had been moving the vehicle within the car park.

Local workers say the car park outside the tyre business is particularly busy.

Major Crash Investigation officers attended the scene and seized the SUV for examination.

Safework SA has also confirmed it is also investigating.
