Channel Nine’s pre-game Origin coverage from Suncorp Stadium was certainly colourful – with one live cross featuring Queensland great Sam Thaiday memorable for all the wrong reasons.

As the veteran of 29 games for the Maroons spoke from outside the Caxton Hotel, a brazen footy fan mimicked a sexual act using both his hands.

It left nothing to the imagination – and no doubt was witnessed by plenty of footy fans watching at home.

Earlier in the broadcast, Danika Mason greeted viewers on the free-to-air network by introducing Maroons legend turned commentator Cameron Smith as ‘Cameron Slater’ in an embarrassing slip up.

‘Did Danika just call him Cameron Slater,’ asked one fan on X.

‘How soon they forget,’ said another.

Smith – arguably the code’s greatest ever player – didn’t react, and later stated it was ‘all good’ and it is fine to ‘mix it up.’

The champion hooker chalked up 42 appearances for Queensland between 2003 and 2017, winning an incredible 11 series across his decorated career.

Meanwhile, it what could be a omen, Daily Mail Australia has discovered NSW have won every Origin that’s ever been played on May 28.

They emerged victorious in 1985, 1997 and 2014, with those matches played in Brisbane – and all of them were series openers.

Both teams are unchanged, with Stephen Crichton overcoming a cork to start in the centres.

After nine minutes, NSW Blues halfback Nathan Cleary opened the scoring with a penalty goal.

It followed Moeaki Fotuaika being penalised for stripping the ball from Mitch Barnett just metres out from the Maroons try line.
