Child Custody Exchange Turns Deadly As Louisiana Mother Shoots Ex Dead in Broad Daylight: Police

A mother allegedly opened fire on her child’s father during a child custody exchange in Louisiana over the weekend.

Police said the father, Brett Daigle, 48, traveled from Colorado for the meeting, which escalated into deadly violence in broad daylight, KLPC reports.

The mother, Randolyn Allen, 43, of Lake Charles, stands charged with second-degree murder for the shooting that occurred Saturday during the custody exchange, according to a press release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence on South Perkins Ferry Road at around 2:30 p.m. responded to reports of gunfire.

During the initial investigation, investigators found that Allen started firing at the home. Daigle was shot several times and died at the scene.

Detectives interviewed multiple witnesses at the scene, including Allen.

“When deputies arrived they located Brett Daigle, 48, Canyon City, CO, deceased,” a CPSO release said. “During the initial investigation, detectives learned [Allen] had discharged a firearm at the residence during a child custody exchange. Daigle was struck several times and pronounced dead at the scene.”

Allen was subsequently booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. Bond is currently pending.
