A man has died after he fell off an e-scooter onto the road and was then hit by a car in NSW.

Police were called to the intersection of Kanahooka Road and Brolga Street in Kanahooka, south of Wollongong, after reports of the crash about 7pm yesterday.

At the scene, officers were told a 41-year-old man riding an e-scooter had crashed onto the roadway, becoming seriously injured before he was then hit by a passing vehicle.

The man riding the scooter died at the scene, despite the efforts of paramedics and passersby.

A 59-year-old man who was driving the vehicle was given mandatory testing in hospital.

He was then taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he is assisting police with their inquiries.

A report into the scooter rider’s death will be prepared for the coroner.
