Weeks after a California teenager was shot and killed in front of a McDonald’s restaurant, a teenage couple turned themselves in to police and were charged with his alleged murder.

Caleb Quick, 18, was killed outside a McDonald’s in Clovis, a city in the Central Valley region of the state, on April 23, and for weeks, no one knew who could have committed the alleged crime. On Saturday, the Clovis Police Department announced the arrests of two 16-year-olds, a boy and a girl who were dating each other, in connection to the shooting death of Quick. After retaining legal counsel, the couple turned themselves in to police on Friday.

During the press conference announcing the arrests, Clovis Police Chief Curt Fleming detailed the timeline leading up to Quick’s death, beginning with still images from surveillance video showing a white Tesla arriving at 7:44 p.m. at the McDonald’s parking lot, and its departure at around 8:15 p.m. Fleming showed surveillance video of Quick entering the restaurant at 8:33 p.m. and the male suspect picked up walking toward the location.

At the same time, the Tesla — allegedly carrying the female suspect — returns to the restaurant.

The male suspect, wearing all black, entered the McDonald’s about five minutes later and then took a seat. The video allegedly showed him “lying in wait” for Quick for 13 minutes, after which the male suspect followed Quick out of the building at 8:56 p.m.
