The Sun previously exclusively revealed David’s “heartbreak” that his eldest son did not join his celebrations as the rift continues.
But now, Brooklyn has spoken fondly of his football legend dad and their bond over cars and motorsports which he has been a fan of since he was “very young.”
“It’s something that me and my dad bonded over. My dad’s had some pretty cool cars,” Brooklyn told The Sunday Times, revealing his dad’s favourite motor is a “1954 Jaguar, which I very rarely drive, only when the weather’s perfect”.
He made the comments at a Formula E Evo Session where he was invited to drive one of the electric racing cars.
Formula E is a category of motor racing using only electric-powered cars.
Brooklyn, who runs his own hot sauce brand, was unhappy when his little brother Romeo‘s new girlfriend Kim Turnbull, 24, was invited the David’s birthday events.
Romeo’s big brother is said to have questioned Kim’s “motives” for starting a relationship with his younger sibling.
He is also said to have felt uncomfortable that his ex would be in attendance.
A source close to Brooklyn said: “Brooklyn flew to London with the sole intention of seeing his family and celebrating his dad’s birthday.
“He suggested going for breakfast or a coffee but was told the only chance to see the family would be at one of their lavish parties which Kim would be at – so he refused.
“As far as he sees it, his parents have chosen Romeo and his new girlfriend over him.”
Nicola has been targeted by trolls suggesting she is the reason for the pair’s no-show at the family celebrations.
But a source has since said of Nicola: “She has never told him what to do and has been nothing but supportive — she’s a loyal wife.”
David and fashion designer, Victoria, are also parents to Cruz, 20, and Harper, 13.
