He’s looking pretty relaxed now, nestled in the arms of his new human.

But last month, the only warmth Leo the stray kitten could find would be in the engine bay of a recently parked car.

That car started moving through Sydney’s West Connex tunnel at 80km/h, throwing Leo to the roadway.

The snoozing kitten was left to dodge the quickly approaching tyres of oncoming traffic.

“Seeing that poor little cat running across the motorway, might have been the most heart-stopping moment that I’ve seen,” West Connex Operations manager Jill Collins said.

Leo would chew through a clutch of his nine lives in just a few seconds, missing moving engine parts as he fell from the bay to the cold concrete below.
