Mount inspires Man United to Europa League final with stunning brace in Athletic Club rout

Manchester United surged into the Europa League final with a thrilling 4-1 comeback win over Athletic Club, sealing a dominant 7-1 aggregate win.

Forgotten man Mason Mount stole the spotlight with a dazzling two-goal performance, reigniting belief in his £60 million price tag and setting up a blockbuster all-English final against Tottenham.

Despite entering the match with a 3-0 cushion, United started tentatively and were punished when Mikel Jauregizar rifled home a brilliant opener following defensive indecision from Harry Maguire.

Athletic threatened to swing the tie, but Ruben Amorim’s triple substitution changed the tide.

Mount, among the substitutes, took charge with a curling equaliser reminiscent of Federico Macheda’s 2009 classic.

From there, United shifted gears. Casemiro fired home to give the hosts the lead, Rasmus Hojlund extended the advantage, and Mount capped his night with a cheeky lob from distance in stoppage time.

The victory books United’s place in the final at San Mames, where both Amorim’s side and Spurs, two underperforming giants, will battle not just for silverware but for Champions League redemption.
