George Clooney is hitting it out of the park in more ways than one. On Thursday, the Oscar winner was spotted in Central Park, where he teamed up with fellow Broadway stars for a friendly game of softball. The same day, Clooney received his first Tony Award nomination.

Clooney, 63, was seen taking a swing in the Broadway League Softball Game in Central Park on May 1. The casually dressed actor wore sunglasses and a backward baseball cap as he attempted to score a run for his team. The Syriana star was joined on the field by some of his Good Night, and Good Luck cast members, including Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. actor Clark Gregg.

Clooney was likely in the mood to celebrate on Thursday. He’d just been nominated in the best actor category at the 2025 Tonys for his role in Good Night, and Good Luck. Clooney plays journalist Edward R. Murrow in the play, which he adapted from his 2005 movie of the same name. The Batman & Robin star was nominated for a best director Oscar for that movie, which is about the conflict between Murrow and Senator Joseph McCarthy. The play was nominated in four other categories, including best costume design and best lighting design. The awards ceremony will take place June 8 in New York City.

“It’s a thrill to have five nominations for this play,” Clooney said of the play’s Tony recognition (via The Hollywood Reporter). “For everyone involved, this has been an incredible experience. I couldn’t be more proud or feel more lucky.”

Is George Clooney’s marriage to Amal Clooney on the rocks?

Clooney’s professional accomplishment comes as rumors swirl that his marriage to human rights lawyer Amal Clooney is on the rocks. His wife of 10 years did not attend Good Night, and Good Luck’s opening night. Soon after, an insider told Radar Online that the couple’s relationship was careening toward divorce. Amal is allegedly frustrated by her husband’s Broadway ambitions.

“Amal is at the end of her rope – and even told him to stay in New York as long as he likes. She will be going back to Europe,” the source said. “He’s deep in the doghouse and seemingly doing nothing to get himself out. Things have never been as tense between them as they are now. There are a lot of whispers that they could be headed for a costly divorce.”
