For millions of voters, the allure of a democracy sausage is not quite enough to outweigh the convenience of voting early before the rest of Australia heads to the polls on election day.

Of the 18 million people on the electoral role, a record-breaking 2.395 million have cast their ballots this federal election.

That’s 400,000 more people than this time in 2022.

The millions of votes have come pouring in despite pre-polling starting a day late after Easter and a pause for Anzac Day.

Yesterday, April 26, marked the biggest single pre-poll day so far with 608,400 votes cast across the country.

In the Northern Territory, a whopping 14 per cent of eligible voters have already voted.

The numbers are around 13 per cent in NSW, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia and the ACT.

Ten per cent have voted in South Australia and eight per cent in Tasmania.

Last election in 2022, 51 per cent of voters headed to the polls early.

With just one week to go before May 3, both Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton kicked off their final seven days of campaigning with separate rallies in western Sydney and Victoria.
