Meghan Markle Was So Rude to a Palace Aide at Windsor That Queen Elizabeth Was Forced to Step In

The Duchess of Sussex’s attitude towards a Palace staffer was so bad that Queen Elizabeth decided to get involved.

Hearing that Meghan Markle isn’t an easy person to work with is nothing new.

Going back to her time as a working royal there were bullying allegations, which the Sussexes dismissed as a “smear campaign.” But then came the story in The Hollywood Reporter from members of the Sussex Survivors’ Club who compared Harry’s wife to a “dictator in high heels.” That was followed by other former employees labeling the duchess a “demon boss,” and telling the Daily Beast she has “psycho moments.”

Now, we’re hearing that before she and Prince Harry stepped down, there was an incident where Queen Elizabeth II was forced to step in and set the Suits alum straight about how to treat people.

Queen Elizabeth had to have a talk with Meghan over her treatment of Palace staffers

On top of all the other reports over the years about how those working in the royal household found it so hard to work under Meghan that they called her “Duchess Difficult,” a royal biographer is claiming that he heard the duchess even chewed out a gardener. The incident is said to have taken place when the Sussexes were living in Windsor Home Park.

Royal author and historian Hugo Vickers told The Sun: “Well I’m afraid I’m not surprised by these allegations because even when she was at Windsor, I remember hearing from very good sources that there was trouble. There was a time when she was very rude to one of the under gardeners at Windsor when they were at Frogmore Cottage.

“The head gardener went to complain to the queen and she told her off because she obviously didn’t like people being rude to staff. None of these other stories surprised me.”

He added: “She probably is not very good with staff or people that she’s employing. It’s just very unattractive. You should always be very polite to people who work for you because otherwise they’re going to get very put out.”

Another publication brought up damining accusations from Meghan’s past employees

Following the Hollywood Reporter article and comments from Meghan’s ex-staffers to the Daily Beast, another feature came out of nowhere when Vanity Fair published a damning piece for its February 2025 cover story.

In the magazine’s blistering report, several people opened up about Meghan’s brutal treatment towards her staffers, saying she’s “really, like, a Mean Girls teenager.”

Some ex-employees alleged that working with her was “really, really, really awful. Very painful. Because she’s constantly playing checkers–I’m not even going to say chess–but she’s just very aware of where everybody is on her board. And when you are not in, you are to be thrown to the wolves at any given moment.”

Another former colleague, reportedly part of Meghan’s team when she did her Archetypes Spotify podcast, revealed they had to take a “leave of absence after working on three episodes.” Others admitted that they too had to take “breaks from work to escape scrutiny,” leave their job altogether, or undergo “long-term therapy” after having the Duchess of Sussex as a boss.
