The woman, aged in her 40s, was injured during a violent altercation on Bridge Road in Barwon Heads, around 21km from Geelong, last night at around 11pm, police said.
A 55-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, where he was treated under police guard.
He was then taken into custody following his release from hospital.
An investigation into the incident is now under way.
