Body Found in Burned-Out Home Amid Search for 13-Year-Old Girl

An Ohio man who allegedly killed his 13-year-old daughter last month was booked into jail on Wednesday, weeks after he was shot during his arrest.

The Toledo Blade reported that Darnell Jones, 33, waived his arraignment hearing for felonious assault a day after he was booked into Franklin County jail. Jones was charged with assault for allegedly pulling a gun on arresting Columbus police officers on March 25, leading to him being shot.

The Blade reported that Jones underwent surgery following the shooting.

Jones is charged with murder and third-degree felony abduction in Lucas County, where his daughter, Kei’mani Latigue, vanished from her Toledo home on March 17. On March 24, she was found dead in a burned-out home. Lucas County coroners believe she died from multiple incised wounds of the neck on March 24. Columbus police Lieutenant Brian Steel said she was raped, had her hands severed, and her throat nearly cut off.

The same day Latigue’s body was discovered, an arrest warrant was issued for Jones for child abduction. Before his arrest, Jones said he last saw Latigue on March 16 after she called and said she was afraid to be home alone. However, police said Jones provided inconsistent accounts of his correspondence with his daughter or her whereabouts.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, state officials say they will review child services’ handling of abuse allegations that surfaced before Latigue’s disappearance.

Jones will be brought to Lucas County, where a court hearing on the murder and abduction charges is scheduled for April 25.
