Lib candidate’s ‘unacceptable’ Easter egg act

An act of festive good will has backfired spectacularly for Scott Yung.

The Liberal candidate for the must-win seat of Bennelong in Sydney’s lower north shore (pictured, below) sparked a ‘stranger danger’ warning after he handed out chocolate Easter eggs and campaigning material to children outside the gates of Lane Cove Public School on Wednesday.

The bizarre story, broken by the Daily Telegraph, prompted immediate concern from parents.

‘We’re always telling people not to take lollies from strangers,’ the parent told the paper, adding that Mr Yung was encouraging the children to do ‘exactly what we’re trying to train them not to do’.

The Department of Education reportedly confirmed the school’s principal had complained to Mr Yung and his campaign.

‘It is unacceptable for any member of the public to hand out Easter eggs, lollies or any other consumable to children outside a school,’ a Department of Education spokesperson told the paper.

A NSW Liberal spokesperson said Mr Yung was talking to parents in a ‘public space’.

‘While speaking to the parents he offered their kids Easter chocolate eggs, with parents’ permission, wishing them a happy Easter,’ the spokesperson told the paper.
