A homicide investigation is underway after a man was killed in an altercation on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

Police allege the 49-year-old man got into an altercation with an 82-year-old man at a home in Maroochydore at 1.30pm yesterday.

The 49-year-old died following the confrontation while his 82-year-old father was transported to Nambour Hospital.

9News understands the fight broke out between the father and son, who lives with a disability.

“Those two men were known to each other and they lived at the same address,” Detective Senior Sergeant Robert Lowry said.

A 47-year-old neighbour rushed to the scene to provide assistance, police said. 

Neighbour Angie Windsor heard the confrontation.

“There was a guy yelling, being quite frustrated and angry,” Windsor said.

Detectives say there were no weapons involved in the altercation, with detectives yet to determine the man’s cause of death. 

“An investigation is under way in relation to the incidents leading up to the altercation and the events after the altercation,” Lowry said.

No charges have been laid.
