Katy Perry and Lauren Sánchez are committed to wearing glam that’s out of this world.
The “E.T.” singer, 40, and philanthropist, 55, are getting ready to blast off into space on April 14 with “CBS Mornings” co-host Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
Not only does their Blue Origin’s NS-31 space flight mark the first all-women crew since Russian astronaut Valentina Tereshkova’s solo trip in 1963 — but it will also be the first time anyone has ever journeyed to space in full glam.
“Who would not get glam before the flight?!” Sánchez — who is engaged to Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos — quipped during the crew’s new interview with Elle.
Perry chimed in, sharing, “Space is going to finally be glam.”
“Let me tell you something. If I could take glam up with me, I would do that,” the musician continued. “We are going to put the ‘ass’ in astronaut.”
Even Bowe has thoroughly considered her flight-day look: “I also wanted to test out my hair and make sure that it was okay,” she said. “So I skydived in Dubai with similar hair to make sure I would be good—took it for a dry run.”
“We’re going to have lash extensions flying in the capsule!” Sánchez joked.
When King asked if the lashes will actually be able to defy gravity, Sánchez insisted, “Mine are glued on. They’re good.”
Jokes aside, when it comes to being one of the most diverse groups of women to ever go to space at once, rocking a smokey eye and fresh blow out runs much deeper than looking good while floating amongst the stars.
“I think it’s so important for people to see us like that,” said Nguyen. “This dichotomy of engineer and scientist, and then beauty and fashion. We contain multitudes.”
“Women are multitudes,” she concluded. “I’m going to be wearing lipstick.”
