Photos have circulated and many have given their view, but for the first time we can reveal these leaked iPhone 17 models in video to show the likely changes coming later this year.
Each year these “dummy” models are produced based on leaks from Apple’s factories, and in the decade I’ve received them they’ve never been wrong.
What we see in these four is that the “base” model iPhone 17 is essentially the same as the iPhone 16, though slightly taller.
Apple’s “pro” model devices appear to mimic the 2024 models, however in the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max we see a large “island” for the camera lenses which now stretches the full width of the phone.
Without knowing why, this appears to be a purely aesthetic decision.
What’s really new though is there’s no “plus” model this year.
Instead, there’s something very new, the hotly rumoured “air” model appears to be legitimate with a rather thin model appearing in this set of four we have obtained.
The thinnest iPhone to date was the iPhone 6 which came in at around 6.9mm, but by our measurements the iPhone 17 Air could be as thin as 5.65mm.
This is relevant not just to its comparison among other iPhones, but also to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, which is the Apple rival’s thin phone announced just two months ago, and due to be released, we think, by the middle of the year.
Its quoted thickness is 5.84mm, which would make the iPhone 17 Air a thinner phone.
Another stark feature of the thinner iPhone is the single camera lens.
Missing out on Apple’s Ultra Wide 0.5 lens might not affect everyone, but it certainly means they’ve likely stripped back as much as they can to obtain this level of thickness in a phone.
How big will the battery be? How durable will it be? What will it be made of to ensure it’s not going to bend?
We won’t know until and if this phone is announced later this year – likely early September if Apple’s pattern of launches continues.
